Accredited Universities for Nursing Science (BNSc) in Nigeria: Full NMCN List With Admission Quotas

Updated October 2026.

Want to study for a Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc) in Nigeria? Make sure your university is approved by both the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). Without NMCN approval, graduates can’t be indexed, sit the council’s professional exams or be licensed as nurses.

Below is the NMCN’s most recent published list of universities approved to run the BNSc, with the maximum number of students each may admit per year. The NMCN’s list is dated August 2022. Some universities have gained approval since then, and quotas can change, so always confirm with the NMCN before you accept an admission.

Source: NMCN list of approved schools with admission quotas, updated August 2022. “Provisional” means approval was not yet full at the time of the list.

The same NMCN list also named 34 more university nursing departments still going through accreditation. Some of these, and other universities, have been approved since. Before you rely on any school’s claim, check the NMCN’s current list.

Why the quota matters

The NMCN sets a maximum yearly intake for each school, based on its staff, clinical placements and facilities. Students admitted above the quota may not be indexed by the NMCN, which can block them from the professional exams later. If a school seems to be admitting far more students than its quota, ask questions before you pay fees.

Entry requirements

  • Five O’level credits (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB) in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, in no more than two sittings.
  • A good UTME score with JAMB, plus the university’s post-UTME screening. Cut-off marks vary by school and year.

How to check a school before you apply

  1. Find the school on the NMCN’s latest list of approved schools, on the NMCN website.
  2. Confirm the university is NUC-approved.
  3. Ask current students whether they were indexed by the NMCN on time.
  4. Buy forms only through official university or JAMB channels. Fake nursing admission forms are a common scam.
