GRAND BLANC, Michigan. One of the longest nurse strikes in recent US history is over. Nurses at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital, represented by Teamsters Local 332, voted to ratify the hospital’s last, best offer, ending a walkout that began on Labor Day 2025 and lasted 411 days.
What the contract includes
According to Henry Ford Health, the contract:
- Raises wages that were below market under the previous operator’s contract by 13%.
- Adds new weekend, critical and off-shift pay rates.
- Keeps the nurse-to-patient ratios from earlier contracts.
- Guarantees seniority rights for every striking member.
Union president Dan Glass said that after more than 100 bargaining sessions, “it was clear that the parties were not going to reach a mutual agreement on some of the core issues that remained.” More than 600 nurses walked out when the strike began.
Still unresolved
- Return-to-work terms are still being negotiated.
- Some members had asked the National Labor Relations Board to review a request to decertify the Teamsters. A hearing was postponed.
The wider picture
The settlement comes as Brigham nurses in Boston reject their hospital’s final offer, and as US nurses press for cost-of-living raises and safe staffing. See also why nurses are quitting in 2026.
